What is a Card Reader?

A card reader is a device to which one or more memory cards can be connected, and data can then be extracted from it. The card reader can be connected to your laptop, desktop or tablet, allowing you to not only open the files but also transfer them to a hard drive. The big advantage of this is that when a memory card of your camera is full, you can quickly create space by transferring this data to your drive. Another useful application is that you can use a memory card to transfer data from one device to another. The speed of the device depends on the cable with which it is connected to your computer or tablet. With a USB 3.0 connection you can achieve much higher speeds and therefore the files are on your device faster. Besides use at home, these systems are also often used in public, such as the PT-chip card and bank cards.

Suitable for different memory cards

In recent years, more and more types of memory cards have come into circulation, which has increased the application possibilities of a card reader. Commonly used cards nowadays are the SD, Micro SD, CF, Cfast and XQD. These memory cards can be read by most card readers. Always check which cards the reader supports.
