Cutters & Passport Photo Punches

With a cutter you can easily trim all your photos to size. You cut straight lines quickly and smoothly. There are different types of cutters. There's the traditional paper trimmer, which works with a cutting blade. You use this for large stacks of paper. There's also a rotary trimmer. The rotary trimmer is safer to use because it has no 'loose' blade and only 'rolls' over the paper. The blade is shielded by a protective cap.

A passport photo cutter is also a type of cutter; it cuts the photo to the exact size of a passport photo.

How do you work with a paper trimmer?

With a paper trimmer you can cut paper quickly and easily with a perfectly straight edge. It's important to work carefully so you actually cut it straight. A trimmer often has a ruler (with a notch) so you can see exactly how much you're cutting off and whether the paper is straight. There are also lines and markings on the work surface. These help you see whether the paper is straight and how much you're cutting off.

Once you've positioned the paper correctly, you cut it. With a traditional paper trimmer, you push the blade down through a stack of paper. Using a rotary trimmer? Then you slide the blade from left to right, or the other way around.

When do you use a paper trimmer?
